Another Doe v. Ashcroft docket update

SDNY CM/ECF Version 1.4 - Docket Report

I have updated the docket in this case, and added the attorney information. However, I have nothing particular to add to my previous comments. I mainly add it since everything has scrolled off the front page of the blog, I don't want to change settings, and it looks fugly. Perhaps it will force me to write more often. In any case, the spectacle of the Unknown Plaintiff forced to litigate with a bag over his head like a Gong Show reject remains as grotesque as ever.

This represents the case I reported earlier in this entry. There's even an actual document, although it is just permission to exceed page length.

The rest is dry docket entries and of course, most documents remain unavailable. Most notably, docket entries reflect amicus curiae briefs from such organizations as the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the American Library Association, Freedom to Read Foundation and American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression. This ALA press release explains a bit more:

Groups signing the brief are the American Library Association’s Freedom to Read Foundation the Association of American Publishers, the Association of American University Presses, the Center for First Amendment Rights, the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Feminists for Free Expression, the First Amendment Project, and PEN American Center.

Additionally, Ann Beeson has moved to appear pro hac vice. As of May 26, 2004, it appears Jameel Jaffer is now acting as counsel for plaintiff.

There are as yet no surprises here, and in fact, very little information at all.
