Every Question You Have About Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler's Kids, Answered (2024)

Gone are the days when you'd catch Kristin Cavallari yelling at her The Hills co-stars on top of a rooftop in downtown Los Angeles. Since first making her debut on Laguna Beach in 2004, the reality star has since become a wife, mom of three, and founder of her own jewelry, clothing, and home collections. And her "bad girl" image that we all loved so much? Well, that was all for the cameras — and it ended as soon as she met her husband Jay Cutler.

Jay made a bold first move ... and it backfired.

Remember the infamous moment between Kristin and Justin Bobby during the final season of The Hills? (Jog your memory here.) Well, it was totally fake. In fact, it was around this time in 2010 that Jay Cutler, a quarterback for the Chicago Bears, first reached out to the reality star. "His sisters used to watch Laguna Beach so he knew who I was. In the middle of filming The Hills, I got a call from my publicist who said, 'Jay Cutler wants to fly you to Chicago and take you on a date.' I didn't know who he was. I didn't want a boyfriend at the time so I said no," she recalled during an interview on Steve Harvey in 2017. Despite turning him down the first time, she met up with him while attending a Bears game in Chicago with her mom and cousin.

They had an instant connection: "We hung out two nights later, and that began a swift and intense romance. I flew back to Chicago at least every two weeks. When we were apart, we texted constantly, and he wrote me the sweetest love emails. He was the strong, manly man I wanted but had a sweet, romantic side as well," she wrote in her book Balancing In Heels.

After eight months of dating, the couple got engaged in April 2011. However, they broke off their engagement in July of that year.

The couple called it quits for three long weeks.

Once the excitement of the engagement died down, so did the butterflies. It became clear to Cavallari that the couple — Cutler, especially — needed to change their ways if they wanted a long-lasting, happy marriage. "Jay and I got engaged really quickly after eight months and we had a lot of things that we needed to work on. I broke up with him because some things needed to change and the only way that he was going to see how serious I was, was if I broke up with him," she said during an interview on Bethenny in 2013. "I knew it wasn't the end. We got back together literally three weeks later."

Together again, they agreed to get help from the professionals to better understand how they can best love one another. "I credit [the therapist] for saving our relationship," she confessed. "She opened up our eyes to the other person's perspective and gave us great tools for communication...we still periodically see her to this day," she wrote in Balancing In Heels.

They wasted no time to start a family.

Shortly after getting back together, the couple held off on saying "I do" because they had something bigger in the works: They were expecting their first baby. On August 8, 2012, they welcomed son Camden Jack. The following year, the couple got married in Nashville, Tennessee. Since then, their family has grown by two: They welcomed son Jaxon Wyatt on May 7, 2014 and daughter Saylor James on November 23, 2015.

"Becoming a mom is where I blossomed. I finally feel like I'm where I'm supposed to be in my life and I'm very comfortable being a mom," she told People in 2016. "I'm proud of the way that we've raised our kids. I've done a few controversial things apparently but I'm so confident in my decisions. My kids are happy and healthy, and that's all I care about."

Now, their family is at the center of Very Cavallari.

After staying away from the spotlight for a few years, Cavallari and Cutler made a joint decision to head back to the world of reality TV — but on their own terms. Very Cavallari, which follows the 32-year-old in Nashville as she juggles her career with motherhood, debuted on E! in July 2018. Although it's initial focus was Cavallari's new flagship store for her jewelry company Uncommon James, (she has since expanded her business portfolio with Little James, a kids clothing line and Uncommon James Home, a curated line of modern home goods), the real standout star was none other than Cutler, who recently retired from football.

"He really doesn’t want anything to do with reality TV, to be quite honest. But he’s doing it to support me and he understands what a good opportunity it is for me. And so my biggest concern with filming the show was just making sure that he was always comfortable," she told Elle. "Before we started filming we talked beforehand about what we were willing to put out there, what we weren’t where in the house we could film — you’ll never see the master bedroom, for example. We both just wanted to make sure we have some stuff that’s just for us, that’s private."

Their kids remain totally off-limits. "I don't really show my kids on social media. Right now, they're five, four, and two. When they're old enough to make that decision, that's one thing but right now I just want to keep them kids," she told E! during an interview at the NBCU Upfronts in 2018.

Successful TV show aside, the happy couple remains focused on what's most important: their kids. Despite their busy schedule, Cavallari makes sure they always give their kids the attention they need. "I’ve learned how to manage my time working on all three while still being a hands-on mom, picking the kids up at school, packing their lunches, I do swim classes with the boys," she told TODAY. "I want to be that mom. I don’t want a nanny picking my kids up. I want to be there."

So, any hope for baby #4? As of right now, it seems like it's a hard no. "We feel like a very complete family, especially because I got my girl," she told US Weekly earlier this year. "Things are just, so great so why rock the boat?" From the looks of it, the only thing they're adding to their crew are chicks, goats, and other animals for their Nashville farm.
