LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- October means fall fun, costumes and Halloween events. Here's a list of some of the things happening in Louisville, southern Indiana and surrounding areas. If you have an event to want us to post to this list, email webteam@wdrb.com.

Waverly Hills Haunted House Tours (2022)

  • Fri., Oct. 28 - Sat., Oct. 29

Halloween Haunted Attraction fundraiser at The Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Louisville, Kentucky! The Haunted House Tours are only on Friday and Saturday nights during the Halloween Season. For our Building Tours, we suggest ages 7 and up. For our Haunted House Tours, we recommend ages 10 and up, but use good parental judgement. For information and tickets, click here.

The Venardos Circus

  • October 19 - 30

  • Big Four Lawn

Ladies and gents, this is the moment you’ve waited for… the iconic Venardos Circus red-and-white striped tent returns to the Big Four Lawn for two weeks this month. Catch a performance of the animal-free, Broadway-style circus from October 19-30. The show is fit for all ages, with 15 performances scheduled during their two week stay. Frankenstein

  • Staged reading of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley’s Frankenstein
  • Tuesday, October 25
  • Doors open at 6 p.m.
  • Performance begins at 7 p.m.

The annual reading of Frankenstein between Locust Grove and Kentucky Shakespeare began in 2015 and has transformed into a benchmark event for the two organizations. Traditionally, the staged reading has taken place by candlelight in the parlor of the main house at Locust Grove. This year, the performance will be hosted outdoors under Locust Grove’s new pavilion. Attendees are encouraged to dress for the weather. Tickets are $15 for Locust Grove members and $20 for all others. Refreshments will also be available during the event. Trick-or-Treat at the Ballpark

  • Friday, Oct. 28 from 6:00 – 10 p.m.
  • Hosted by the Louisville Bats
  • Louisville Slugger Field
  • 401 East Main Street, Louisville, Ky.
  • Free parking will be available in the Louisville Slugger Field lot at the corner of Main St. and Jackson St.

The holiday festivities will include trick-or-treating on the concourse, a costume contest with prizes for both kids and adults and a screening of the movie “Halloweentown” on Louisville Slugger Field’s giant, high-definition video board. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $2 for kids and $ for adults at batsbaseball.com or in-person at the Box Office at the event, with the costs being $4 for kids 12 and under and $7 for adults. Woodlawn Halloween Street Festival

  • 300 Block of West Woodlawn

Join the Beechmont Neighborhood Association, the Office of District 21, and Woodlawn Businesses for Halloween Fun! Featuring Mile Wide Beer Co., Weekend Burgers, and Str8 Drop Wings food trucks, and more! Music, treats, kids activities. For info, click here.

Ghost Cruise (for Kids) & Ghost Cruise (for Adults)

  • October 29
  • Belle of Louisville
  • 4th Street Wharf on the Louisville waterfront.

Two Ghost Cruises are offered on Saturday, October 29. The spooky (not scary!) family cruise departs at 1 p.m. and returns at 3 p.m.

An adults-only (ages 21+) haunted cruise on the Belle is from 8 to 10 p.m. Halloween costumes and period apparel are encouraged for this Halloween cruise, but not required. Tickets are $39.99 for adults (15-64), $38.99 for seniors (65+) and $18.99 for children (5-14). La Grange Halloween MAINia

  • Oct. 29
  • 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This is an old-fashioned trick-or-treating experience down Main Street in La Grange, Ky.! Get into costume and head to the historical Main Street district with a smile and a bag open for all the goodies the merchants will be handing out. Be sure to take time to shop, eat, and enjoy the museums and art galleries along the way.

Hayride on the Hill

  • Shawnee Park on Sat. Oct., 29
  • Cherokee Park on Sun., Oct. 30
  • 2:30-5:30 p.m. each day.
  • Free

Hayride on the Hill just doubled in size! Olmsted Parks Conservancy presents Hayride on the Hill in Shawnee Park (Saturday Oct 29) and Cherokee Park (Sunday Oct 30). Both events are free. Guests and friends are invited to enjoy the fall foliage. For information, click here.

Spirit Ball: A Victorian Masquerade

  • The Conrad-Caldwell House

After being laid to rest seven years ago, Spirit Ball: A Victorian Masquerade rises from the grave this October! Celebrate the ghostly season in true 19th-century style as our lavish masquerade returns to The Conrad-Caldwell House on St. James Court for one night only.

In addition to a night of mischief and revelry, attendees can take part in a silent auction to benefit the Conrad-Caldwell House Museum, dine on gourmet appetizers crafted by True North Catering, indulge in expertly mixed co*cktails at the open bar, have their fortunes revealed with a one-card draw of the Tarot deck, dance the night away with DJ S.Y.I.M.O.N.E, and much more! Brunch + Bark By The Bridge and HOWL-O-WEEN PAWTY

Waterfront Park is partnering with the Kentucky Humane Society on marking the event more pet friendly than ever for our 2 and 4-legged friends! A percentage of proceeds from this awesome event will even support KHS’s lifesaving programs. All dogs who are up-to-date on their vaccinations are welcome to paw-ticipate and dog costumes are highly encouraged! Boo Dell

Boo Dell returns for Halloween 2022! Our famous Trail of Treats is back, plus activities with our Horticulture Team, live music, and other surprises for the whole family in a non-scary environment. Scottsburg Haunted Downtown and Trunk-or-Treat

  • Downtown square in Scottsburg, Indiana

More than 80 businesses, clubs, and organizations spread-out over downtown Scottsburg around the Scott County Courthouse distributing candy and more to all trick-or-treaters. A map will be distributed by Scottsburg Main Street identifying all the participating local businesses and to help those ghouls and goblins, so they don’t miss out on any of the sweet treats being passed out. Watch for street closures beginning at 5 p.m. The street affected are First Street from S.R. 56 to Cherry Street. Wardell Street from Second Street to Main Street and Main Street from Cherry to S.R. 56.

Jack O'Lantern Spectacular

More than 5,000 artistically carved pumpkins illuminate the night as an “organic art show” at Iroquois Park during the month of October!

Gaze upon the fantastic pumpkins with designs of famous individuals such as Louisville's own Jack Harlow, Halle Bailey and the Queen as well as scenes from iconic movies! Jack O'Lantern Spectacular hours are Sunday through Thursday 6:30 to 10 p.m. and Friday & Saturday 6:30 to 11 p.m. Purchase your tickets at the box office at Iroquois or online. Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom

See towering pumpkin sculptures, some more than 12 feet high, expertly carved that light up the night with special effects and pops of color. Boo at the Zoo

A Louisville tradition for over 40 years, Boo at the Zoo, presented by Meijer, transforms your Zoo into a living storybook, complete with some of your favorite characters brought to life, fun music and a safe place for trick-or-treating for kids 11 and under. Your party ticket includes all rides, attractions and parking. To help provide social distancing and to reduce contact, there will be a limited number of treat booths throughout the Zoo. This year, rather than receiving one treat per booth, kids 11 and under will receive multiple treats at each station!

Ultimate Halloween Fest

  • Ultimate Halloween Fest returns this year at two locations

This year features several fun activities for Halloween fans of all ages including the free Silver Screams Classic Horror Movie Series at Paristown. Four classic horror films will be shown on the projector screen at Christy's Garden each starting at dusk: Oct. 1 Dracula (1931), Oct. 8 The Wolf Man (1941), Oct. 15 The Invisible Man (1933), Oct. 22 Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948).

Other events include Oktoberfest, Pope Lick Chili Cook-Off, the Great Pumpkin Night and the Spookshow Spectacular all at the Legend of Pope Lick. End the month with the Halloween Balloon Glow and the Halloween Parade at Paristown. Click here for information.

Shively Annual Trunk or Treat– 11am Shively Park, 3920 Dixie Hwy. Costumes encouraged. Kids should bring a bag to collect candy. The event ends when the candy runs out.
