I agree with your unanswered questions list and have a couple of my own. Just finished binge watching Z Nation and Googled to see when season 6 would be airing and found this article. Not happy about it, but it doesn’t surprise me. These shoes do get to a point when it’s like, what can they possibly have the characters do next that they haven’t already done? When they spent an entire episode in S5 with George and Doc getting stoned in the car and talking about The Constitution, BoR, etc, with Doc’s imaginary scenes to go with it…for me that was the dumbest episode of all and it was going downhill from there. But I digressed. Sorry.
My unanswered questions mostly remain with Lieutenant Warren. If she was dead all that time since the drone crash, why didn’t she ever crave brains? Why didn’t she start to lost control and want to eat people, namely her friends who she was with all the time? How did her hair turn from blonde to black again? Those are my biggest unanswered questions. I know she always said she wasn’t hungry at meal times, but she never once craved any brains and they had those Bizkits wearing off of the Talkers pretty quickly, but Warren could make it all season without anything? I guess they did all that so we would be “surprised” at the end, which I totally was, when Estes shot Warren and she was already dead. I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING.
Then, I thought Cooper was there to kill Warren, but he fought his way out of a zombie surrounded trunk to go all that way to tell her she was dead. Really? Of course he wanted her back too, but the main reason was to tell her she was dead? I guess they needed to give the viewer an explanation as to why she was dead.
Murphy followed the drone flight path and crash wreckage to find her and when he did, wouldn’t he have known RIGHT AWAY that she was dead? When Cooper told her she was dead after she was shot, I thought maybe that’s why she turned on him so quickly at the farm when Murphy showed up, because Murphy was controlling her brain. But she seemed very remorseful for doing that to him, so it seems as though she did it of her own free will. If she hadn’t left the farm, there wouldn’t have been a season, so there you go. She had to leave, but that was a dumb way to do it. For her to stuff the man who “saved her life” and who she loved in a trunk, just, dumb. Desperate, maybe. I don’t know.
And what about Addy’s new man, who died and then came back a Talker, Finn? She went to go help her friends with her Talker mission and left him on his farm. Did he just go “feral?” He didn’t know he was dead, so he would t know to eat Bizkits.
In my opinion, I think we do know the fate of Zona. Everyone was going nuts because their vaccines weren’t working and they all ended up killing each other, which may also explain what happened to the Blends being stored there. They may have been killed. And I knew, I just KNEW Warren was the “reset button” as soon as she got on that helicopter to leave Zona. Too obvious that SHE was the one important person they needed to evacuate (Murphy, too). And they armed her with weapons!! I was so disappointed I was able to figure that out so quickly. Maybe it’s because i binge watched it and had all of the information right there from past seasons really fast, but I just knew it.
And I was so sad when Vasquez AND Hector died in the same episode! Damn it! I was wondering if Vasquez knew he was pretending to El Scorpion, or if he was faking it, or what the heck? Because as soon as Warren gutted him, he knew who she was all of a sudden? And they left poor Hector there un-mercied? Oh my goodness.
Clearly they had plans to keep the show going or they wouldn’t have left so many loose ends. It’s just so upsetting for us, the viewers. We all know what Murphy will do with Sun May’s brain, but I was excited to see him create some kind of jacked up thing that only benefits himself, inject himself and then see what color he became next!
And I was SO PISSED OFF when the let Lucy die! The reason she died was to save her dad, the guy she was angry with ever since her introduction to the show? Really creative concept about why she ages so quickly, but we never got a chance to see Murphy’s good side, his father side. But we did see his soft side big time when he told Warren to come back and be careful, that he didn’t want anything to happen to her because the apocalypse wouldn’t be the same without her. Again, he should have known she was dead there, too!!
Overall for me, Season 5 is when the show Jumped the Shark and with the way it ended, I have a feeling they knew it wouldn’t be coming back. I mean, everyone had somewhere to go and someone to go with, somewhere to live with plenty of food/water, the dam was fixed, the Bizkit market was back, etc…,so all was good and the world was “saved.” Except of course for Murphy who is running around out there eating Sun May’s brain. That could have gone ANYWHERE!! . I like where it ended and how, with the exception of our questions. I had some other ones too but now I can’t remember. Plus I’ve written enough!!
If you came this far, thanks for reading my reply! I found Z Nation because I found Black Summer, first. That lead my to Z Nation. I really like how they referenced Black Summer all throughout the show, seems like a few times in each season. Can’t wait for season 2 of Black Summer. We all know it will be more of the same, but I love me some zombie shows!!!
